Lorraine & Kev’s Wedding for Two at Millbrook Estate

A Wedding For Two
After nearly 20 years together, Lorraine had just about given up hope of a proposal—so when Kev finally popped the question two years ago, it was a huge and joyful surprise! The couple, who love walking, travelling and discovering new craft beers (especially in taprooms around the world), initially started planning a traditional wedding for 35 guests. But it didn’t take long before things started to feel a little… off.
“As we planned the finer details, we realised that all the discussions (and sometimes arguments!) were focussed on making sure everyone else was happy. Lorraine explains. “We realised we wanted a day that was purely about us.”
A quick Google search for “weddings for two” opened the door to the idea of elopement weddings—something they hadn't really heard of, outside of Gretna Green. “It was hard telling family and friends they wouldn’t be there, and although they were disappointed, they understood.”
Why Millbrook?
The couple’s search quickly ruled out larger wedding venues and hotels. “We didn’t want a venue that also catered for 200 people. It just wasn’t intimate enough,” says Lorraine. When they found Millbrook Estate, everything fell into place.
“We were drawn in by the beautiful setting—especially the Summer House—and the privacy of Lake View with its own hot tub. After reading so many wonderful reviews from couples who had married there, we just knew it was the place for us.”
A Day Full of Laughter (and a Lawn Mower!)
“It’s impossible to pick a favourite part—it was such a perfect day filled with love and laughter,” Lorraine says. “But one funny moment was the robotic lawnmower meandering around behind the registrar! It had entertained us since we arrived, so I asked our photographer to include it in one of our photos!”
The day was full of personal touches too. “Kev doesn’t drink champagne, so while I had a flute, he had a beer glass and a can in the ice bucket—just perfect! And our cake was very ‘us’ too: fruit cake on the bottom, cheese in the middle and pork pie on the top!”
Suppliers They Loved
• Photographer: Rebecca Roundhill captured the day perfectly. “She was fantastic—she caught so many special moments.”
• Afternoon Tea: A delicious spread provided by Justine Wood
Advice for Future Elopers
“My advice is simple: be selfish. If there’s one time in your life to do what you want, it’s your wedding day. Some people said they’d never get away with not inviting their family, but most told us it sounded perfect.”
Lorraine also has high praise for Millbrook’s wedding coordinator, Meg. “I’m a very detailed organiser and always thinking about getting everything right. But Meg took over all the details of the day, which meant I could just relax and enjoy it with my new husband. And with no guests, we didn’t feel obligated to mingle—we just jumped straight in the hot tub!”
Happily Ever After
“We wouldn’t change a thing,” Lorraine says. “We had another two days to relax and enjoy the stunning grounds. The day we left, we were so sad to say goodbye to this special oasis of happiness—which will forever be in our hearts.” ❤️
