Elopement Package FAQs

Is an elopement wedding legally binding in the UK?
Yes — an elopement at Millbrook Estate is a fully legal civil ceremony. We are a licensed wedding venue in Devon, which means you can legally say your vows here with a registrar from Devon Registration Service. You will need to give notice of marriage at your local register office at least 29 days before your ceremony, but you don't need to travel to Devon to do this.

How long does an elopement ceremony actually take?
The legal ceremony itself typically takes around 20 to 30 minutes, though most couples spend much longer at the venue enjoying the moment. Your Summer House is yours until 4pm on your wedding day, so there is plenty of time to relax, sip fizz by the fire, explore the grounds and have photographs taken in our beautiful 32-acre estate.

What is the minimum notice period to get married at Millbrook Estate?
In England and Wales, you must give legal notice at your local register office at least 29 days before your ceremony. Once notice is given, we can often arrange your wedding at Millbrook within 35 days, making us one of the fastest options for a legal elopement wedding in the UK. We do have last-minute availability at certain times of year — it's always worth calling us to check.

Can we get married outdoors at Millbrook Estate?
Yes — many couples choose to say their vows outdoors in our beautiful private gardens. In warmer months, the Summer House's 5-metre doors open fully to blur the line between inside and out, creating a near-alfresco feel. We also welcome fully outdoor ceremonies within our licensed grounds, weather permitting.

Do we need to find our own witnesses for an elopement?
Not at Millbrook. We would love to be your witnesses if you need us — and there is absolutely no extra charge for this. It is one of the details couples worry about most when planning a wedding for two, and we are always happy to step in so your day feels complete.

Can we elope in Devon without guests and keep it completely secret?
Absolutely. Many of our couples choose a completely private elopement — just the two of them, with no family or friends present on the day. We are fully experienced in handling completely confidential bookings and understand that some couples prefer to announce their news in their own time and their own way. Your day, your rules.

What is the difference between an elopement package and a micro wedding?
If you're looking for something a little bigger, our sister venue Tree Top Escape offers an intimate treehouse setting located on our Estate but with its own private entrance.

What time of year is best for an elopement wedding in Devon?
Every season at Millbrook has its own magic. Spring brings wildflower meadows and fresh greenery; summer offers long golden evenings and the option to marry in the gardens; autumn gives rich colours and beautiful light for photographs; and winter is incredibly cosy with the log fire in the Summer House and the estate feeling wonderfully peaceful and private. Our winter elopement packages start from just £899.

Can we bring our dog to our elopement wedding at Millbrook?
Yes — Millbrook is proudly dog-friendly, and we absolutely love having four-legged family members join in the celebrations. You can find out more on our dog-friendly elopement weddings page. Many of our couples include their dogs...
