Real Couples, Real Reasons

Why Couples Choose to Get Married Quickly

There's no single reason couples decide to get married quickly — and there doesn't need to be. Here are just a few of the people we've had the privilege of helping.

✈️ Moving Abroad

One recent couple was relocating to Dubai and needed to be legally married before they left. With just a few weeks to spare, they called us on a Monday — and were married in our Summerhouse just over four weeks later. Simple, beautiful, and exactly what they needed.

❤️ They'd Been Putting It Off

Together for years, engaged for even longer — some couples just need a nudge. One pair had been planning a big wedding for so long that they'd completely lost sight of why they wanted to get married in the first place. They stripped it back, chose each other, and had the most relaxed, joyful day imaginable.

🌿 Avoiding the Fuss

Not everyone wants a big celebration. Many of our couples simply don't want the stress, the expense, or the politics of a large guest list. Getting married quickly and quietly — just the two of them — is exactly what they choose, not a compromise. It's a celebration on their own terms.

🌟 A New Chapter

A new job, a new home, a new beginning — sometimes a life change prompts couples to stop waiting for the "right moment" and create it. We've hosted couples celebrating a fresh start who wanted their wedding to feel spontaneous, meaningful, and completely theirs.

💛 For Someone They Love

Some couples choose to get married quickly so that a family member — a parent, a grandparent — can be there. Short-notice weddings are sometimes the most meaningful of all, and we are always honoured to be part of them.

💍 Whatever Your Reason

The truth is, you don't need a reason at all. If you want to get married quickly, that's enough. We've never once asked a couple to justify their decision — and we never will. We're just here to make it happen, beautifully.

Frequently Asked Questions

You must give 29 days' notice to your local registration office before legally marrying. Once that's done, you can marry any time in the following 12 months. At Millbrook Estate, we offer weddings all year round, so couples can elope here as soon as they are legally permitted — making it an ideal choice for a last-minute wedding or quiet elopement.
Yes — our venue is licensed, and we specialise in intimate, discreet elopements. To arrange a last-minute wedding, you first book the venue and date, then request that the registrars hold the ceremony there, and finally notify your local registration office. As long as your 29 days' notice is satisfied, we can host your ceremony.
You will need proof of identity (such as a valid passport), proof of address, and if previously married, a divorce decree absolute or death certificate of former partner. You do not necessarily need your birth certificate if a passport suffices for identification in your registration district.
In many cases, a valid passport is acceptable in lieu of a birth certificate. The exact requirements depend on your registration district, so always check in advance with your local register office.
You can marry at any licensed venue or register office. Millbrook Estate is a licensed venue, so once your 29-day notice is complete and paperwork submitted, you can elope here without delay.
No — your venue must be named when giving notice of marriage. Changing the venue later can require giving fresh notice.
In very rare and strictly regulated circumstances (for example, serious medical urgency or exceptional reasons) it may be possible to apply for a special marriage licence. You must seek this from your local authority or registrar in advance — it is not guaranteed. Be sure to request more information from your registrar early if you believe you may qualify.
