A Joyful Spring Elopement at Millbrook Estate – Tania & Stephen
Some weddings don't need a guest list, a marquee or months of complicated logistics — they just need two people, the right place, and a day that belongs entirely to them. Tania and Stephen travelled from Milton Keynes for a just-the-two-of-us elopement at Millbrook Estate, exchanging personal vows in the Summerhouse on a beautiful April day and staying four nights at Corncott.
The Simplest Way to Make It Special

There are weddings that take years to organise and involve spreadsheets, seating plans and a hundred competing opinions. And then there are weddings like Tania and Stephen's — intimate, unhurried, entirely their own. When gathering an extended family for an early date felt simply too complicated, they made a different choice entirely: they eloped.
The decision, it turned out, was one of the best they ever made.
How the Idea of Eloping Came About
A big wedding had crossed their minds — they had even originally considered marrying abroad. But the practicalities of bringing an extended family together kept getting in the way, and the idea of a large celebration began to feel more like hard work than joy. When the idea of eloping presented itself, everything shifted.
An online search led them to Millbrook Estate. The photographs spoke for themselves — the place looked magnificent. But it was what happened next that truly sealed it.
"The prompt and friendly response sealed the deal," they told us. From that first contact, they knew they were in the right hands.
Slightly Nervous, Quietly Excited
On the morning of their wedding, Tania and Stephen felt exactly as you might expect: slightly nervous, but excited. That particular combination — a flutter of anticipation alongside the quiet knowledge that something wonderful is about to happen — is one we see often at Millbrook, and it never gets old.
The beauty of an elopement is that the nerves have nowhere else to go but towards each other. There's no crowd to manage, no running order to keep track of. Just the two of you, and the day ahead.
A Fabulous Experience in the Summerhouse
Tania and Stephen's ceremony took place in the Summer House — and it was, in their own words, a fabulous experience. Very personal. Very intimate.
Their coordinator Meg was there to make everything flow, supported by her colleague, and the registrar conducting the ceremony made the occasion genuinely moving. "A delightful registrar," they said — someone who handled the day with real sensitivity and warmth.
At the heart of it all were their personal vows. The words they had chosen for each other, spoken in a beautiful space, with no distraction and no audience. Just the two of them, making a promise.
Lucky with the Weather — and Everything Else
April in Devon can be unpredictable, but Tania and Stephen were lucky. The sun was on their side, and they were able to step outside and fully enjoy the beautiful surroundings that Millbrook has to offer — the grounds, the light, the sense of space that makes the estate so special.
Their favourite moment? Exchanging their personal vows. It was the part of the day that mattered most, and it delivered everything they had hoped for.
The happy surprise came in the form of the registrar. "We were both touched and delighted by the sensitive and thoughtful way the registrar conducted the ceremony," they told us. Sometimes the people you haven't met yet turn out to be exactly the right ones for your day.
Meg: The Coordinator Who Made It All Flow
Behind every smooth elopement at Millbrook is a coordinator who has quietly taken care of everything — and for Tania and Stephen, that person was Meg.
"The entire event was thoughtfully planned to the last detail by Meg, our coordinator, so we didn't have to concern ourselves with the day," they said. From the florals provided by The Flower Shop to the private dining arranged through Justine Wood, every element had been considered. Tania and Stephen simply had to arrive, be present, and enjoy it.
Four Nights at Corncott
Tania and Stephen stayed in Corncott for four nights, and from the moment they arrived the experience made them feel valued and special. The apartment, the grounds, the staff — everything came together to create a stay that went far beyond a hotel room.
They made the most of every corner of the estate: exploring the grounds, walking along the river and through the woods, and indulging in the hot tub. On their wedding day, they enjoyed private dining — a wonderful, unhurried way to mark the occasion. And they ventured out to explore Devon and its coastline too, taking in the dramatic scenery that makes this part of the country so memorable.
Why Eloping Was the Right Choice
Tania and Stephen found their elopement far more intimate than a traditional wedding would have been — and that was exactly what they had hoped for. The feeling of it being their day, shaped around them and no one else, made all the difference.
Would they recommend it? Absolutely. "It is such a special and personal experience compared to a large function," they said. For couples who are drawn to the idea but feel uncertain, their advice is warm and straightforward: "It's your day — make the most of it and enjoy it."
